Chicago Tribune rates Africare among Top charities in the country
Chicago Tribune, December 21, 2011- Chicago Tribune, the major daily newspaper of Chicago, Illinois and the eighth largest newspaper in the US issued a list of its recommended top charities. There were several Charities listed for many diverse causes such as Health, Environment, Child Protection and Animal Welfare and Protection. Africare was listed as the one of the Top Charities for International Development.

Africare Participates in the Official Launch of Batonga Girl's School Project in Benin
On November 9 Africare officially launched in Benin the Batonga Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project at Sodohome Girls' High School which is supported by global superstar Angelique Kidjo’s Batonga Foundation. The project will bring sustainable clean water and safe sanitation as well as hygiene training to four of Batonga's secondary schools in Benin which are turning girls into leaders in their communities. Africare’s water and sanitation projects aim to raise school attendance rates and improve the health of these young women.

Africare's System of Rice Intensification Project Wins Best Practice Award
Washington DC, May 23, 2011 - For the second year in a row, Africare was recognized by umbrella group InterAction's Best Practices Initiative (BPI). This year's Best Practice Award went to Africare Mali's System of Rice Intensification (SR) Project for its success in natural resources management and adaption to climate change.

Walk for Water 2011
Washington DC, Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 – The 2nd annual Walk for Water for Africa event, which took place on May 15th 2011, was a great success - nearly 250 runners and walkers crossed the finish line for both the 1k and 5k races.

Project Highlight: Integrated Maternal and Child Health Program
Washington DC, Monday, May 16, 2011 –. As of December 2010, Africare had reached 60,500 people with health promotion messages, and the project is making a real difference. Africare has also doubled facility-based births and virtually eliminated maternal deaths in intervention areas.

Africare's President Visits Ghana Water Projects with Stephen Axelson
Washington, DC, Friday, April 28, 2011 – This week Stephen Axelson and Africare President Darius Mans traveled to the district to see first-hand the projects funded by Axelson for his Eagle Scout project and also to commission the Ghana Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene for Health (WASHH) Project which was funded by a personal donation to Africare from President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize Award.
