The 2008 Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner to celebrate clean water in Africa
Dear Friends of Africare,
“Around the world, more than a billion people do not have safe water to drink, or use to keep themselves or their homes clean. Unsafe water is also an obstacle to education. Water-related illnesses keep children out of school, and keep children from learning while they’re in school. Finding clean drinking water is the central daily task of women and girls in many parts of
Africa-
a task that keeps girls out of the classroom.”
-First Lady Laura Bush
The sentiments of the First Lady about the lack of clean water and its repercussions are felt every day throughout the countries of
Africa
, not only by those children who have to walk three miles in the morning to get a glass of water and who miss school, but also by the women who have to search for a water source to clean their clothes and cook dinner for their families. And by the farmers whose livelihood suffers because of the lack of water to maintain their crops. But with your help Africare can continue to effect change everyday and improve the quality of life of millions of people in Africa.
Please join us at Africare’s 2008 Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner “Water-Life’s Lifeline,” highlighting Africare’s water and sanitation programs across the continent of
Africa
. The 2008 Dinner will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Washington Hotel on November 12. This event will once again be the largest annual fundraising event in
America
to support improving the quality of life in
Africa
.
So come share Bishop Walker’s vision at a wonderful “Black Tie” evening with dinner and entertainment in support of Africare’s successful programs in water and sanitation, food security and agriculture, health and HIV/AIDS, and emergency and humanitarian aid, women’s empowerment, civil society development and governance, microenterprise, and other critical areas.
