Earlier this month, the Wazazi na Mwana project celebrated handing over an operating theater and new boat ambulances to communities in Tanzania’s Rukwa Region.
Wazazi na Mwana, meaning “Parents and Children” in Kiswahili, is a maternal and child health project funded by Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and jointly implemented by Africare, Jhpiego and PLAN International. Men and women in the project’s regions are learning to recognize, prevent and respond to basic maternal, newborn and child health issues. Additionally, the project is supplying facilities with equipment to improve the care they provide and supplying communities with equipment to reach facilities quickly.
Africare/Tanzania Country Director Ranahnah Afriye Matuba attended the event along with representatives of our implementing partners, all of whom were fortunate enough to share the project’s successes with the Rukwa Regional Commissioner Eng. Stella Manyanya as well as Tanzania’s Vice-President Dr. Mohammed Gharib Bilal.
